The one thing to know is what it will not do. EPDM has poor resistance to petroleum oils and fuels, so it should never be substituted for nitrile on oil service. The two compounds are close to opposites, which is why both are stocked.

Can I use EPDM camlock gaskets for oil?
No. EPDM has poor resistance to petroleum oils and fuels and will swell and fail. Use nitrile NBR for oil service, or Viton FKM where chemicals and heat are also present.
